Associate Professor, Political Science

Email:
jsudduth@iu.edu

Jun Sudduth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington. Before joining Indiana University, she was a Reader (Associate Professor) at the University of Strathclyde in the UK. She holds a B.A. from the University of Tokyo, an M.A. from New York University, and a Ph.D. from Emory University.

Her research focuses on political violence, authoritarian politics, civil-military relations, leader survival, regime transitions, and the linkages between domestic politics and foreign policy. She is currently working on a book manuscript that seeks to understand why some leaders successfully consolidate power by repeatedly eliminating rival elites from the regime while others do not, using newly collected cross-national data on purges of military officers and civilian elites. She has published articles in the Comparative Political Studies, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Politics, and elsewhere. Her research has been funded by the British Academy, Carnegie Trust, Leverhulme Trust, and the Research Council of Norway. Her personal homepage is available at: https://junkogasudduth.com/
