Undergraduate Student Awards
Capstone Prize. Faculty teaching I400 or I406 will forward the best thesis in their class to the Capstone Prize Committee of the Undergraduate Affairs Committee by the Thursday of the last week of classes. Each year one student will be awarded the Capstone Prize of $250. The prize is disbursed via the Office of Student Financial Assistance to the student’s bursar account.
Travel Awards for Scholarly Presentations or Field Research. Students should email to the Chair and to the Director of Undergraduate Studies an application that includes a budget and an abstract of 100 words explaining the proposed activities. Deadlines for applications for the fall/spring semesters are October 1/March 1. Only one application per student per academic year will be accepted. Awards are limited to no more than $250 and will be disbursed via the Office of Student Financial Assistance to the student’s bursar account.

Master's Student Awards
Travel Awards for Scholarly Conferences or Field Research. The department will provide funding to a limited number of graduate students for traveling to conferences and workshops, or for conducting approved research during the academic year. Funds for research can be used to support interviews, archival research, pilot fieldwork or other research-related matters. Applicants should be presenting a paper or otherwise participating in the program as a chair or discussant on a panel or roundtable. Applicants not presenting a paper should include a brief statement (one page) addressing the importance of their attendance for participation on a panel or for other purposes.
Application materials needed:
- Description of the research project;
- An itemized budget;
- A copy of the preliminary conference program showing the panel on which the applicant will be participating (or confirmation of participation from conference organizers);
- An abstract of the paper; and
- A current curriculum vitae
Applications and supporting materials should be emailed to the Director of Graduate Studies and will be accepted on a rolling basis. Only one application per student per academic year will be accepted. Awards are limited to no more than $500 and will be disbursed via the Office of Student Financial Assistance to the student’s bursar account.
