Ph.D. Minor in Global Studies

The minor provides a theoretical and methodological framework for the interdisciplinary study and critical analysis of global phenomena. Each minor student develops an individualized program in joint consultation with the Director of Graduate Studies (, and their graduate mentor, that best complements and provides a global context to the student’s disciplinary and professional academic programs and specific regional interests.

Approved Electives (12 Credit Hours)

  • Four courses selected in consultation with and approved by the Director of the Ph.D. Minor.

Capstone Project

Students complete the Minor through a capstone project that includes one of five options:

  • a specifically designated course
  • an international internship
  • international field work
  • a substantial paper
  • a question on the student’s qualifying examination in the major department.
